Not Playing Your Best

I recently came across this famous photograph of Mickey Mantle on Life.com. The disappointment he is expressing is almost tangible. I can relate. After breaking my leg and injuring my ankle in an April Rugby game, I have been steadily working to heal. The fact however that I must learn to accept is that for the next year I will not be the same player I used to be. It will take time and practice to bring myself to where I want to be. I am sure after my first few games I will, figuratively speaking, throw my batting helmet in frustration.

Sibling Bond

I woke up sick with strep throat on a Monday morning. I had promised weeks before that I would babysit on the approaching Wednesday. After my many alternate babysitters failed to be free for that day, I realized somehow I would have to make it work. No longer contagious, there was no real reason for me not to go. I also knew, however, that with my slight fever and throbbing throat I could not keep up with the 3 year old ball of energy I was scheduled to care for. So I brought my younger brother with me. Having him there allowed me to sit and observe while still making sure little Brayden had a good time. Thank God for brothers.

I came across this photo of Jack and Bobby Kennedy during Jack's Presidential Candidacy. Bobby helped Jack both as his brother and as his campaign organizer. This pictures epitomizes the truest bond, that of siblings.

Kids: True Individuals

I woke up this morning, got dressed, did my hair, and wondered what others would think of my appearance. Whether or not you admit it, most of us spend at least 30 seconds each day caring what others think. If only we could hang on to the innocence of childhood. Before we felt the need to impress people. Before we worried about how our hair looks. If only I could return to the good old days when my favorite outfit was an ivory colored, matching pants and shirt set. How much of our individuality is lost in the process of growing up?

This picture shows varying reactions to the same event. Kids are the only true individuals in our world.

Squirrel Mess

Sure, everyone says Monday mornings are the worst, but i beg to differ. What about Thursdays? You've already worked an exhausting 3 days and to make matters worse all you can see ahead is Friday, tempting you with hopes of the weekend. I got out of bed this Thursday morning wanting nothing more than to crawl right back under the covers. I got in the shower only to find there was no shampoo. I backed the car in to the garage door, apparently forgetting it had to be open in order to leave. Also - I'm pretty sure I hit a squirrel on my way to work today.

In memory of the Squirrel, a victim of my bad morning:
